Morocco Finish Top of Group A Despite Senegal Holding Them to Goalless Draw

Hosts Morocco secured first place in Group A of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations after battling to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Senegal in Rabat. Although they missed the chance to end the group stage with a perfect record, the Atlas Lionesses advanced unbeaten with seven points.

Morocco controlled much of the contest and created the better scoring opportunities, but Senegal's disciplined defence and outstanding goalkeeping kept the home side from finding the breakthrough. The visitors remained resilient throughout the encounter to earn a valuable point.

The biggest moment of the match came in the second half when Morocco were awarded a penalty. Yasmin Mrabet stepped up to take the spot kick, but Senegal goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye produced a brilliant save to deny her.

After the referee ordered the penalty to be retaken, Mrabet was handed another opportunity to score. Ndiaye once again rose to the occasion, making a second outstanding save that preserved Senegal's clean sheet and became the defining moment of the match.

Despite dropping points, Morocco's unbeaten campaign was enough to secure top spot in the group. Algeria claimed second place after defeating Kenya 2-0, while Senegal finished third with four points. Kenya exited the competition without registering a single point.

Morocco will now shift their focus to the quarter-finals, where they are set to face the runners-up from Group B. Their next opponents will emerge from a competitive group featuring Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Tanzania and defending champions South Africa, setting the stage for another exciting knockout clash.
