Nigerian-British Influencer Dies After Cosmetic Procedure in Thailand

Nigerian-British businessman and social media personality, Igho Ubiribo, has died following complications from a cosmetic procedure he underwent while on holiday in Thailand.

Ubiribo, 43, reportedly travelled to Bangkok with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, when he decided to have a cosmetic treatment aimed at increasing his penis size.

According to reports presented during an inquest in the UK, the procedure involved injections containing hyaluronic acid and lidocaine at a clinic in Thailand.

After the treatment, Ubiribo and his wife returned to their Marriott hotel, where they reportedly went for a massage. During the session, he began experiencing chest pain and later lost consciousness.

He was rushed to Sukhumvit Hospital for emergency treatment. Medical personnel reportedly suspected that he had suffered a pulmonary embolism and recommended further scans to determine the cause of his condition.

However, his condition deteriorated before the scan could be completed. He was eventually moved to intensive care, where doctors carried out prolonged resuscitation efforts.

Ubiribo died in the early hours of March 6.

Inquest links death to cosmetic treatment

Evidence presented at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court revealed that doctors had been informed about the recent cosmetic injections.

A postmortem examination later found material in Ubiribo’s lungs that was consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure.

Pathologist John du Parcq told the inquest that the findings supported the conclusion that the substance had contributed to a pulmonary embolism.

Coroner Jean Harkin subsequently ruled that Ubiribo’s death was caused by a pulmonary embolism linked to the cosmetic procedure.

A pulmonary embolism happens when a blood vessel supplying the lungs becomes blocked. It can become a medical emergency because it can interfere with blood flow through the lungs and put significant pressure on the heart.

Ubiribo’s lifestyle and legacy

Before his death, Ubiribo had built a significant following online, where he frequently shared glimpses of his luxurious lifestyle. He reportedly had around 185,000 Instagram followers.

He was also said to own properties in Los Angeles and London and married fashion designer and socialite Danielle Simba Allen in Zimbabwe in 2022.

His funeral was held in London, where reports said he was laid to rest in an elaborate gold coffin.

Afrobeats superstar Davido was among those who attended the funeral. The singer was reportedly a childhood friend of Ubiribo and spoke about his death, expressing disbelief at losing someone he described as full of energy and presence.

The case has since highlighted the importance of understanding the potential complications associated with cosmetic procedures involving injectable fillers.
