Sarkodie Opens Up About His Frustrating Experience at Afro+ Fest
Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has disclosed that he nearly pulled out of his scheduled performance at the 2026 Afro+ Fest in Maryland, USA, due to what he described as serious organisational problems.
The rapper took to X after performing at the festival on Saturday, September 5, to share his disappointment with the way the event was managed.
According to Sarkodie, the situation backstage and around the event was frustrating enough to make him consider abandoning his performance. However, seeing the number of fans who had turned up to support him encouraged him to go ahead with his set.
Sarkodie explained that he had to mentally prepare himself before eventually taking the stage. He described the festival’s organisation as extremely poor, although he did not disclose the specific issues that caused his frustration.
Despite his concerns about the event’s management, Sarkodie said he was pleased that the fans still enjoyed themselves.
The award-winning rapper was among several major African and international artistes billed to perform at the festival. The lineup included Wizkid, Davido, Tems, Ayra Starr, Lil Baby, Latto, Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Adekunle Gold and Chief Keef.
His comments have since drawn attention online, with fans discussing the challenges artistes may face when events are not properly coordinated.
