Nigerian DJ Association Boycotts Burna Boy After Alleged Assault on DJ Tunez

The "Odogwu" is facing a major industry blackout. In a bold and rare move, the Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has officially announced a temporary ban on all music by Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy. The decision, made public on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, comes in response to a reported physical altercation between the singer and DJ Tunez, a long-time associate of Wizkid and one of the industry's most respected disc jockeys.

The incident allegedly took place on Monday night at Obi’s House, a popular weekly Afrobeats event in Lagos. According to eyewitness reports and viral video footage, what began as a verbal disagreement escalated into a brawl involving Burna Boy’s entourage, leaving DJ Tunez assaulted on the nightclub floor.

Physical altercation at Obi's House, Lagos (Monday, April 6, 2026). The speculated reason to be linked to DJ Tunez playing Wizkid's songs and an alleged refusal to play Burna Boy’s music. DJ Tunez claims he was "hit in the back of the head" and faced a "1 vs. 10" scenario against Burna Boy's team. NDJ has directed all members, home and abroad, to remove Burna Boy from their playlists until further notice.

"Ogbafia Dey for Ground": Burna Boy Mocks the Situation

Rather than issuing an apology, Burna Boy has seemingly leaned into the controversy. In a viral video posted on Wednesday morning, the singer mocked DJ Tunez (who goes by the moniker Ogbafia). Dancing to the track "Money Constant," Burna Boy playfully altered the lyrics from "Ogbafia dey my side" to "Ogbafia dey for ground" before dramatically falling to the floor, a clear jab at the DJ being pinned down during the scuffle.

The NDJ's "Zero Tolerance" Stance

The Nigerian DJ Association released a strongly worded statement on Instagram, condemning the attack as an act of "discrimination and hostility" within the craft. The association emphasized that "All DJs are Equal" and called for an end to the intimidation of DJs by artists and their teams.

"Burna Boy’s music is temporarily out of any of our DJs' playlists till further notice. Our team will carry out a proper investigation into the incident that happened to one of our own... We cannot all succeed when half of us are being held back."

This ban marks one of the most significant collective actions taken by a professional body in the Nigerian music industry and poses a major challenge to Burna Boy’s 2026 "No Sign of Weakness" era.
