Why Mr Eazi Avoids Listening to Burna Boy’s Music

Nigerian music star Mr Eazi has revealed the surprising reason he intentionally keeps his distance from songs by fellow Afrobeats giant Burna Boy, despite having deep admiration for his artistry and songwriting talent.

In a resurfaced interview currently making rounds online, Mr Eazi praised Burna Boy for his exceptional lyrical depth, describing him as one of the most intelligent songwriters in the African music scene. According to the singer, Burna Boy’s music goes beyond catchy melodies and often carries hidden meanings that many listeners may overlook.

Mr Eazi specifically highlighted Burna Boy’s famous lyric, “big man wey no dey wear agbada,” explaining that the line reflects a powerful social message. He noted that in places like Lagos, wealthy men are often expected to display their riches through expensive traditional outfits such as agbada. However, Burna Boy’s lyric challenges that mindset by promoting a quieter, less flashy version of success.

Drawing comparisons to global billionaires like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, Mr Eazi said truly wealthy individuals do not always feel the need to prove their status through luxury fashion or extravagant appearances. Instead, many of them prefer simple lifestyles despite their enormous wealth.

The “Leg Over” hitmaker also admitted that he avoids listening to Burna Boy’s songs for professional reasons. According to him, both artists share similar low vocal tones, and he fears constant exposure to Burna Boy’s sound could unconsciously influence his own style. Mr Eazi explained that staying away from the Grammy winner’s music helps him preserve his originality and maintain his unique artistic identity.
