Cardi B and Nicki Minaj Settle Feud After Claims Cardi Was Also Offered Nicki's Little Mix Collab
The feud between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj heated up and then simmered down on Monday night. The two rap superstars, who first butted heads during New York Fashion Week in September when Cardi allegedly threw a shoe at Nicki for remarks Cardi claims the "Barbie Tingz" rapper had allegedly made about Cardi’s daughter, have brought their beef back to our attention with a series of social media posts — and even involved Little Mix, the music group Nicki recently collaborated with.
On an episode of the Beats 1 show Queen Radio that aired on Monday (October 29), Nicki opened up about the NWFW incident and her relationship with Cardi. She claimed that the "Bodak Yellow" performer had been attacked by Rah Ali, a friend of Nicki's who also appeared on Love and Hip Hop alongside Cardi. This conflicts with previous claims that Cardi had been hit by security. Nicki also offered $100,000 for surveillance footage of what happened at the event.
Nicki's statements appear to have fanned the flames. Soon afterward, Cardi posted a series of ten videos to her Instagram, addressing Nicki directly and calling her a liar. Cardi claimed that she was offered the feature on Little Mix’s “Woman Like Me” single first and played a version of the song on her phone, which appears to have a section with just the music and no lyrics, seemingly where Cardi’s rap would have gone. Furthermore, she says that she was offered deals with fashion brands such as Fashion Nova, and Nicki alleges that brand had already approached her but she passed.
Nicki took to Twitter to share her thoughts on Cardi’s videos, even inviting Cardi to take a lie detector test on her radio show. “We can... Get on live & have the convo for the world to see. Do a lie detector test TOGETHER Do an interview on #QueenRadio *** ORRR we can both sit in a room together, hear a beat for the first time, and have ourselves FILMED WRITING TO IT!!!!!” Nicki wrote. She didn’t tag Cardi in the tweets themselves, but it's fairly clear she's addressing Cardi.
Little Mix has also jumped in to the Cardi vs. Nicki feud. They posted a gallery to their Instagram about the drama, saying, “We just want to clarify...Nicki was approached first (swipe for date).” The photo itself reads, “Sorry Cardi hun but this is the T. We’ve always wanted the queen. No shade.” The gallery post also shows texts between the group members about the song, saying if they can’t confirm Nicki the song won’t be released, and another swipe reveals a series of video cuts of the Little Mix girls talking about how much they love Nicki and want to work with her.
When Teen Vogue reached out to Columbia Records for comment about "Woman Like Me," Columbia directed TV to another Little Mix tweet, which read, "We love and respect both Nicki and Cardi B. Both were approached by our label to work with us on Woman Like Me, Nicki then Cardi. We went with Nicki because like we've said over and over for years, it's been a dream of ours to work with her since the beginning."
At the end of Monday evening, Nicki posted a final tweet about the alleged feud. “Ok you guys, let’s focus on positive things only from here on out. We’re all so blessed. I know this stuff is entertaining & funny to a lot of people but I won’t be discussing this nonsense anymore. Thank you for the support & encouragement year after year. Love you,” she wrote. Cardi then screenshotted this tweet and posted it to her Instagram, tagging Nicki and writing, “@Nickiminaj alright then! Let’s keep it positive and keep it pushing!” It seems like the two music superstars have decided to let things settle for the time being, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on what happens next for Cardi and Nicki.
