Lamine Yamal Faces Backlash Over Controversial Birthday Party Entertainment
Barcelona's rising star, Lamine Yamal, is under intense scrutiny following reports that his 18th birthday celebration featured entertainment involving individuals with dwarfism, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation from disability rights organizations.
The ADEE Association (Association for People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias) has publicly denounced the event, asserting that such "shows" are a blatant violation of human dignity. The organization highlights that these acts contravene Spain's General Law on the Rights of People with Disabilities, which explicitly forbids the use of individuals with disabilities in a manner that elicits ridicule or mockery.
Carolina Puente, president of ADEE, emphasized the amplified negative impact of public figures like Yamal being involved in such incidents, as it inadvertently normalizes and suggests the acceptability of discrimination. The association has announced its intention to pursue legal and social actions to defend the rights of their community and demand accountability for the incident.
The controversy has ignited a firestorm across social media platforms and has been extensively covered by both Spanish and international media outlets. This incident raises significant concerns about potential reputational damage for Yamal, especially given his recent long-term contract with FC Barcelona and his inheritance of the prestigious number 10 shirt.
As of now, Lamine Yamal and his representatives have not issued an official statement regarding the matter.
