AfroPitch 2026 Highlights Africa's Fast-Growing Startup Ecosystem in Kigali

AfroPitch Kigali 2026 reinforced its growing reputation as one of Africa's emerging platforms for startup discovery, founder development, and entrepreneurial growth, bringing together some of the continent's most promising innovators, investors, ecosystem builders, and business leaders.

Hosted as part of AfroTalks Kigali 2026, AfroPitch attracted more than 70 startup applications from across Africa, reflecting the growing momentum within the continent's innovation ecosystem. Following a competitive selection process, shortlisted founders took to the stage to pitch solutions addressing some of Africa's most pressing challenges across healthcare, cybersecurity, technology, digital commerce, education, and the creative economy.

AfroPitch has evolved into the entrepreneurial and investment-facing arm of AfroTalks, designed to identify promising startups, connect founders with investors and mentors, provide business development exposure, and strengthen innovation ecosystems through cross-border collaboration.

The Kigali edition showcased the increasing maturity of African entrepreneurship. Founders demonstrated not only innovative ideas but a stronger focus on scalability, sustainability, market relevance, and execution. Many startups presented solutions designed to serve multiple African markets, highlighting a growing shift toward continent-wide thinking among entrepreneurs.

A major highlight of the programme was the MVP Masterclass led by Mariama Jalloh, startup advisor, investor, author, and one of Africa's leading voices on founder readiness and venture growth. The session exceeded registration expectations, attracting an overflow audience of founders eager to learn practical frameworks for building investor-ready pitch decks and scalable businesses. Rather than focusing on theory, the masterclass delivered a tailored approach designed specifically for the realities of building startups in African markets.

The competition concluded with three outstanding founders emerging as winners.

Victor Nara, founder of Rivia Clinics, secured first place and the grand prize of 1,000,000 RWF. His healthcare innovation impressed judges through its potential to improve access to quality healthcare services while addressing critical gaps in African healthcare delivery systems.

Second place and 500,000 RWF was awarded to Patricia Agyekum, founder of Obaa Cyber Corps, a forward-looking initiative focused on strengthening cybersecurity awareness and digital skills development, particularly among young people and women. Her solution highlighted the growing importance of digital resilience across Africa's rapidly expanding technology ecosystem.

Third place and 400,000 RWF went to Cishahayo Songa Achille, founder of Agaseke for Creators, a platform empowering creatives through access to opportunities, resources, and markets. The startup reflects the increasing importance of Africa's creative economy as a driver of innovation, employment, and economic growth.

While the prizes recognised excellence, the true value of AfroPitch extended beyond the awards. Founders gained exposure to investors, ecosystem leaders, potential partners, and fellow entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and future growth.

The success of AfroPitch Kigali builds upon the momentum established in previous editions, including AfroPitch Lagos, and further positions the platform as a continental launchpad for high-potential African founders. With Kigali concluded, AfroPitch now turns its attention to Nairobi in October 2026, where a new generation of African founders will once again take the stage to showcase ideas, build partnerships, and shape the future of African entrepreneurship.
