TGMA27: Okyeame Kwame wages war on galamsey through symbolic red carpet outfit
Okyeame Kwame turned heads and sparked conversation at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards after using the red carpet as a powerful stage to campaign against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. The celebrated rapper arrived in an eye-catching all-gold outfit that instantly became one of the most talked-about appearances of the night.
Dressed from head to toe in shimmering gold and armed with a gold-plated sword, Okyeame Kwame’s glamorous fashion statement carried a much deeper message beneath the luxury. Accompanying the rapper were two muscular performers whose dramatic body art symbolised the painful effects and destruction caused by illegal mining activities across Ghana.
While many celebrities used the TGMA red carpet to showcase style and glamour, Okyeame Kwame transformed his moment into a bold environmental protest. His symbolic appearance highlighted the contrast between Ghana’s valuable gold resources and the devastating environmental damage caused by reckless mining practices that continue to pollute rivers, destroy forests, and threaten communities.
Speaking during an interview with host Giovanni Caleb, the rapper explained that his glittering look was intentionally designed to provoke reflection among Ghanaians. According to him, gold may represent wealth and beauty, but galamsey has become a national crisis destroying the country’s natural resources and future generations.
Okyeame Kwame also stressed that the fight against illegal mining should not be reduced to political blame games between the NPP and NDC. He urged citizens to see environmental protection as a shared national responsibility, warning that Ghana risks losing its natural heritage if collective action is not taken seriously.
Widely known for blending music with activism, the rapper once again demonstrated why many regard him as one of Ghana’s leading “Artivists.” Beyond the powerful red carpet statement, Okyeame Kwame is also promoting his latest single titled Clap, a motivational track encouraging people to celebrate and support the success of others. His appearance at TGMA 2026 proved that entertainment and activism can still go hand in hand.
