“Ghanaian DJs Are Obsessed With Doing Things That Scare Customers – Merqury Quaye Reveals
GREATER ACCRA – Saturday, May 9, 2020/www.gbafrica.net/ – Multiple awarding Ghanaian Radio and Television personality and founder of Ghana DJ Awards, Merqury Quaye, has revealed the rationale behind the drastic reduction in consumers patronizing Disc Jockeys for their respective private events.
In a Facebook post sighted by Entertainment Journalist, Gerrard-Israel, the host of ‘Cruise Control’ show and ‘Hot Picks’ show on Hitz 103.9 FM and Joy Prime respectively disclosed that, Ghanaian DJs are obsessed with doing things that target, impress or earn respect from other DJs instead of the consumer who would pay for service.
According to him, instead of Ghanaian Disk Jockeys building their clientele, and branding themselves to be appealing and worthy to be paid fairly for their services, they rather engage in needless battles, watching too much Disco Mix Club (DMC) DJ competition and also spending much time trying to scratch unnecessarily which makes them unattractive to numerous common music lovers.
He added that, creativity and communication are the best weapons in order to survive in the music industry, in perspective, the entertainment industry, thus far, Ghanaian DJs should think of new ways of promoting their crafts, music and events in a catchy and noteworthy way, endorsing their brands, to attract the common music lovers, precisely their target audience.
Merqury Quaye is a Ghanaian MC, music producer, voiceover artiste, DJ, singer and broadcaster. He was awarded best of Funworld organized by the National Theatre in 1999. He is the first Ghanaian presenter to host a music video chart show in Ghana. The name of the show was Soundcity top 10 Ghana. It was aired on GTV between 2007 and 2009.
In 2008 Merqury’s radio broadcast journey started on Choice 102.3fm as the host of the channel’s drive time late afternoon show dubbed Highway 102. He was perhaps made for drivetime radio; he hosted the drive on Choice FM, Atlantis radio and currently hosts the drive on Hitz 103.9fm.
He founded the Ghana DJ Awards, Africa’s first and only DJ honors, in 2012. The Ghana DJ Awards highlights contribution DJs have made to development of the entertainment industry. Merqury Quaye produced and recorded rapper Asem’s first demo and also did demo recordings other top Ghanaian singers including Jupitar.
