Bisa Kdei Says Everyone in Ghanaian Music Is Underrated
Ghanaian highlife musician Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah better known as Bisa Kdei has called for a major change in Ghana’s music industry, expressing concern about the perception that highlife music is meant for older generations.
Speaking during an interview on WatsUp TV, the award-winning musician emphasised the need for Ghanaians to change their mindset towards highlife and give the genre the recognition it deserves.
According to Bisa Kdei, many people associate highlife with older people, a perception he believes needs to change if the genre is to continue thriving among younger audiences.
He also pointed to the relationship between highlife and Afrobeats, highlighting the influence of highlife on the development of modern African music.
Bisa Kdei’s comments come amid ongoing conversations about the promotion of Ghanaian music, the appreciation of local genres and the need to preserve the country’s musical heritage while embracing new sounds.
The musician believes a shift in mindset and greater appreciation for highlife could contribute to the growth and development of Ghana’s music industry.
His remarks have also raised questions about how much support Ghanaian music receives locally and whether more needs to be done to promote the country’s original musical identity.
