"Psquare can only come back if the respect comes back 100 percent" - @PeterPsquare

Will Peter and Paul Okoye ever make music together again?
With recent events, fans hoping for a Psquare reunion may have to accept that it is all in the past now.
Peter and Paul, them be one no be two', sang Psquare in the hit single, Bizzy Body, a line that time has exposed to be untrue as the brothers are not only separated but constantly in the news for spiteful comments.
While the feeling of nostalgia inherent is us as music lovers drive our cry for a Peter and Paul Okoye reunion as P-Square, it may just be time we accept this may not be happening. (At least, not in the near future).
A few days ago, I wrote on the need for the Okoye brothers to return to making music as one and not two individuals as the case has been over the past one year.
This was largely borne out of the below par output from the twins as individual acts, as most of their songs struggle to make any impact or show promise of successful solo careers to come.
But one has been given a cause to have a rethink following soundbites and comments that continue to leak from their camps with every passing week.
Signs are evident that the cracks which led to their separation is left uncovered and the pains unhealed.
Psquare were the darling group of the Nigerian music scene for over a decade. Accompanied with their good looks, the twins had an understanding of how to score a good commercial record and had the dancing skills to enhance their stage presence.
What they represented was stuff of legends, as their name rang across every corner of the continent.
The twins appealed to the hearts of both men and women, but the latter formed the bulk of their fans, such that when news first broke of infighting within their camp, some took to social media pleading that the brothers never get separated.
It, however, was all in vain as in 2017, Psquare officially announced their split and we got introduced to Paul aka Mr P and Peter aka Rudeboi.
A roll-out of singles soon followed immediately, armed with videos that were reminiscent of what they offered as a group, but like a puzzle missing a vital piece, every song released served as a taste of what once was and a yearning for what could yet be.
So fans began to push the agenda for a Psquare reunion, maybe if they cried loud enough like the Biblical worshippers of Baal, just maybe it will spur a miracle of a reunion, but over the weekend, statements from the brothers proved yet again that the chances of this happening are not just unlikely but almost impossible anytime soon.
In an interview earlier in the year, Peter had listed that for any chance of a Psquare reunion to happen, it must be done with respect.
“Psquare can only come back if the respect comes 100 percent, the fans want Psquare but how many times do you want Psquare to come back and break up, he said.
This he explained further in a separate interview with Citizen TV in Kenya, where he stated;
“I don’t disrespect my brother’s wife neither, his family but he does that to me all the time. He’ll insult me and my family in public, on Instagram, and the next minute, he’ll wait for me backstage for us to perform together," Peter said.
While his brother, Paul Okoye refrained from commenting on the topic.
Exactly seven years ago, the twin released their fifth studio album, ''Invasion'', the album which contained hit singles like Chop My Money, Beautiful Onyinye and Ole Buruku.
Track 6 on the album is the song, 'Me and My Brother', a reggae influenced tune, where they sang, ''As you see me and my brother, no be say we sing pass, no be say we dance pass, but e be like say na we them bless pass.''
It is 2018 and Peter is holding his own show in Nairobi and other African cities, while Paul has announced dates for his upcoming European tour.
The twins may have achieved success and popularity on a large scale, but in the immortal words of rap legend, Jay Z, 'No one wins when the family feud', and for Psquare, the music has taken a back seat for now, and their fans are the biggest losers.
