Details emerge in murder of rapper XXXTentacion, police say he was targeted
Details are emerging after the arrest of a man who allegedly gunned down popular rapper XXXTentacion in Florida on Monday.
Dedrick Devonshay Williams, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday night in Pompano, Fla., and now an affidavit, obtained by the New York Times, alleges that Williams and another man targeted the 20-year-old rapper, ambushing him outside a motorcycle dealership.
Williams and his accomplice allegedly followed XXXtentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, to a Broward County motorcycle dealership where the rapper was shot and killed when the men tried to rob him, police said.
Williams and another man allegedly followed the rapper into the dealership and one of the men used cash to buy a mask from the parts department, the affidavit said.
When the 20-year-old tried to leave the parking lot, his vehicle was blocked from exiting by an SUV driven by Williams and an accomplice, who were armed and "demanded property" from the rapper.
After a brief struggle, Onfroy was shot, police said. The two men then reached into the rapper's car to steal a Louis Vuitton bag and fled in their SUV, the affidavit said.
Authorities later arrested Williams by matching the orange sandals he is seen wearing in Instagram pictures to the orange sandals on one of the suspects described by witnesses from the robbery, reports said.
It is not clear if Williams’ alleged accomplice has been arrested.
XXXTentacion was expecting a baby with his girlfriend at the time of his death, his mother revealed on Instagram Thursday.
"He left us a final gift," Cleopatra Bernard captioned an image of a sonogram.
