BILL GATES GIVES MOST OF HIS FORTUNE TO THE GATES FOUNDATION
Bill Gates announced on Thursday, May 8 that he would transfer the majority of his remaining fortune to the Gates Foundation, with an ambitious goal: to spend more than $200 billion by 2045, the planned date for the organization's permanent closure.
A Philanthropic Vision
Since its creation in 2000, the Gates Foundation has invested $53.8 billion in projects focused on public health, education, and development. By the end of 2024, its net assets amounted to $71.3 billion, and its budget for 2025 is set at $8.7 billion.
Three Key Priorities
For its last twenty years, the foundation will focus its efforts on:
- Education, to ensure equitable access to learning.
- The fight against infant mortality, by improving newborn care.
- The prevention of infectious diseases, including polio, dracunculiasis, measles, and malaria.

Bill Gates' Statements
In an open letter, Bill Gates explained his decision:
"A lot can be done in twenty years. I want to make sure the world moves forward during this period."
He also expressed his hope that other wealthy individuals would follow his example:
"I hope that other wealthy people will realize how much they can improve the fate of the world's poorest by increasing their donations."
A Historic Commitment
Bill Gates has already donated more than $100 billion, including $60 billion to his foundation. His initiative marks one of the greatest philanthropic commitments in modern history, aiming to maximize the foundation's impact before its closure in 2045.
