Taylor Swift Makes VMA History, Becomes Most-Awarded Artist

Taylor Swift has made history at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the most-awarded artist in the history of the prestigious ceremony.

The pop superstar added three more trophies to her collection during the awards ceremony held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27, taking her career VMA total to 33. Her latest achievement moved her past Beyoncé, who previously held the record with 30 wins.

Swift won Video of the Year for her hit “The Fate of Ophelia,” a track from her 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl. She dedicated the award to the late country music legend Dolly Parton, describing her as an exceptional storyteller and “the ultimate showgirl.”

She also picked up the Best Direction award for “Opalite,” further highlighting her growing involvement in directing and visual storytelling.

In addition, Swift became the first recipient of the newly introduced MTV VMA Artist Director Honors. The award recognises artists whose work behind the camera has contributed to the development of music videos and visual storytelling.

The historic night also saw Swift premiere the music video for her new song “Patient Zero,” featuring actors Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.

With 33 VMA wins, Swift now stands alone as the ceremony’s most-awarded artist, adding another major milestone to an already record-breaking career.
